Since the mid-1970s, while serving as President and Founder of the Williams Hospitality Group, Hugh Andrews was responsible for the successful redevelopment and repositioning of the then Condado Plaza and El San Juan Hotel & Casino. He also developed El Conquistador Resort & Country Club and the five-diamond Las Casitas Village.
Hugh Andrews has served on the Boards of Directors of Scotiabank de Puerto Rico, Empresas Santana, Robinson School, the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association and the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau. His unparalleled contributions to the island’s tourism industry earned him induction to the 'Top 10 Businessman Hall of Fame' by Caribbean Business newspaper, the Hall of Fame of the Puerto Rico Sales & Marketing Executives Association and the Hotelier of the Year Award from the Caribbean Hotel Association.
David is a second generation member of the team as other members of his family began with Mr. Andrews with the Condado Plaza hotel and the Williams Hospitality group. While growing up in the hotel business, at the El San Juan and the El Conquistador hotels, David went on to attend the Wharton school at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon his return he has been involved in the acquisition, structure, financing and operations of the Condado Duo project and the Condado Palm. Recently he has also been involved in the purchase and redevelopment of the Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon, NJ.
José M. Suárez
José started his hotel career as a member of the opening team of the El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, holding positions in sales, finance and operations. He was named Hotel Manager of the year at El San Juan Hotel & Casino in 2001. Prior to joining IHE in 2006, he was general manager of one of the largest resorts in the Caribbean, the Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Island at Our Lucaya Resort in the Bahamas.
Mr. Suárez brings a unique perspective to IHE, having held senior management positions in both the public and private sector. In the public sector, he served as Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) from 2002-2004. He led the opening team at La Concha- A Renaissance Resort in 2007 as general manager. His current focus is on the development and opening of the ultra-luxury Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, as well as oversight of the historic El Convento Hotel, the Doubletree San Juan, the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde, La Concha, A Renaissance Resort and the Copamarina Beach Resort.
As President of International Hospitality Enterprises, Inc. (IHE), Mr. Suárez is responsible for the management of all IHE hotels in Puerto Rico, as well as new development opportunities for the company.
He serves on the Board of Directors as Vice-Chairman of the San Juan - Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, and recently was elected President of the Board of the Scholarship Foundation for Hotel and Tourism Studies.
José is also the current chairman of the BOD for Scholarships Foundations for Hospitality. Active BOD for Puerto Rico Tourism Company and meet Puerto Rico.
President & CEO International Hospitality Group
Mr. Carl William Kortum is an owner/operator of Casino del Sol at Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort and Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort in Condado. He has spent 25 years working with a number of Puerto Rico’s hotels and casinos.
From 1978-1995, he was Vice President of Williams Hospitality Management Company (WHMC). It was in this capacity that he directed the renovation, repositioning and reopening of El San Juan Hotel & Casino, The Conquistador Resort & Casino, El Convento Hotel, Courtyard Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort and the Casino at Palmas del Mar.
From 1995 to 2001, he was the Executive Vice President of Swissotel Hotels and Resorts with full responsibility for seven luxury hotel properties in North and South America, as well as development in the Americas region.
Carl has a keen understanding of all aspects of the hotels and casino business and has consistently been successful in producing significant financial results. In his role as Vice President of Casinos of Williams Hospitality, the casinos at the Condado Plaza Hotel and El San Juan Hotel became the most successful and most profitable Casinos in all of Puerto Rico.
For many years Carl has been involved as an active member in the development of tourism in Puerto Rico. He was founder and the first Chairman of the Casino Committee of the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association. Through his work with this committee, he was a strong, effective advocate for the rights of the casino industry. He was also instrumental in assuring the involvement of the casino industry in the formation of local laws that affect it.
At present Mr. Kortum is the President of the Luis Torregrosa Casino Golf Classic, a nonprofit organization, which serves as a premier fund raiser for the Scholarship Foundation for Hotel & Tourism Studies.
In addition, Mr. Kortum serves on the Board of the Scholarship Foundation for Hotel & Tourism Studies; the Hospitality School of the Universidad del Este and Robinson School.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Marlene has had a distinguished career as an accounting and finance executive in the hospitality industry and is recognized as one of the top financial leaders in our region. She started her career with Ernst & Young and later joined El San Juan Hotel & Casino as its Director of Finance. During her tenure at El San Juan she also had regional responsibilities supervising multiple hotels in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean for Wyndham Hotels and later LXR/Blackstone. She joins IHE from the famed Caribe Hilton where she had been leading the finance team since 2015.
Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Peter started his hospitality career at the Condado Plaza Hotel in 1993, while managed by William Hospitality. He later was part of the opening team for the first Wyndham hotel in Puerto Rico and soon became their Director of Sales & Marketing.
Peter joined IHE in 2002 as part of Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort opening team and two years later was promoted to his current role. Peter was directly involved in the re-branding process for the Doubletree by Hilton San Juan and has also played active roles in La Concha Resort, Condado Palm Inn & Suites and the Condado Vanderbilt openings.
Vice President of Human Resources
With nearly 27 years experience in the hospitality industry, Eddie Ortiz is the Vice President of Human Resources for IHE. He is responsible for the hiring and development of nearly 1,200 employees in our 5 hotels and two casino operations.
He began his hospitality career as a management trainee at the then, 570-room Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino in 1983. Eleven years later, after he held various management positions at the El San Juan Hotel, he returned to the Condado Plaza as the Director of Human Resources.
His most recent assignment within IHE was as General Manager of the Best Western Hotel Pierre, now the Doubletree by Hilton.
Carlos J. Gómez
Director of Digital Marketing
He began his hospitality career, as hotel manager of the boutique Gallery Inn in Old San Juan.
Gomez joined IHE as a management trainee at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Resort in 2003, holding positions in housekeeping, food and beverage and front desk. In 2006 he was named Manager of Sirena Restaurant, a position he held until his promotion to Revenue Manager of El Convento.
As Director of Internet Marketing, Carlos Gomez, is responsible for digital tools and online marketing strategy for each of the properties in our portfolio.
Director of Engineering
Our Director of Engineering, Giancarlo Dorazio, has more than 30 years of hospitality industry experience, and opened over 20 hotels in that time, including all the hotels in the IHE portfolio.
He joined Hyatt Hotels in 1980, opening a string of hotels from New Brunswick to Puerto Rico as Director of Engineering, until joining IHE in 1997.
His oversight of IHE hotels includes responsibility for the construction of the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel & Towers.
Leslie Y. Ortiz
Corporate Purchasing Director
Her hospitality career began at the El San Juan Hotel & Casino in 1989. In 1992 she was hired as Operations Manager of Heidelberg PR. In 1994, she joined the opening team of the San Juan Marriott, and eventually promoted to purchasing manager.
In 2004, Ortiz joined PR Development Services as purchasing agent for La Concha and the Condado Vanderbilt.
As Corporate Purchasing Director, a position she has held since 2009, Leslie Y. Ortiz is charged with consolidating and maximizing the purchase of goods and services for the hotels in our portfolio. In addition, she and her team oversee all purchases for new projects.
Casino del Sol
Guillermo Márquez began his career in the casino industry as a croupier at the Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino. Steadily progressing from cage cashier at Palmas del Mar Resort, to table supervisor at Condado Plaza, and later assistant shift manager at the Caribe Hilton and Condado Plaza, he became part of the opening team at El Conquistador Resort and Country Club as shift manager in 1993.
He returned to the Condado Plaza in 1996 as Director of Operations until he joined Casino del Sol in 2006 where he currently is General Manager.
Sigfrido de Jesús
Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort
Sigfrido has been working in the hospitality industry since the 1980s. He has studies from the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina Campus, and a unique background as a business owner of several years, which gave him the opportunity to develop sound administration skills.
He started out his career at El San Juan Resort and Casino. While he was there, he had the opportunity of being part of the team that opened the casino of El Conquistador Resort, in Fajardo. He advanced his experience at Casino del Sol and, in 2008, he once again participated in an opening, this time of Casino del Mar, at La Concha Resort, as Operations Manager, where he has been Casino General Manager since May 2014.
La Concha, A Renaissance Resort
José’s career started as a Scuba Diver instructor a the Condado Plaza in 1988. During his stay at this hotel, he worked positions as Pool Area and Recreation Activities Manager, Housekeeping Supervisor and finally to Housekeeping Executive Director. In 1994, he moved to Palmas del Mar Resort where he worked as Manager for the Rooms Division for two years. Later, he comes back to San Juan to work as part of the opening team for Colony Hotel as General Manager Assistant. He later is promoted to hotel General Manager in 1997.
In 1999, he starts working for Allegro Resorts as General Manager for their “all-inclusive” hotel in Aruba. In 2000, he comes back to Puerto Rico as hotel manager for Doral Resort Palmas del Mar and Club Cala where he designed programs to standardize front desk, reservations and housekeeping services. He obtained an AAA award for this effort. Afterwards, he joins Copamarina Beach Resort as General Manager in 2001. Here, he introduced the first 'all-inclusive' hotel offer in Puerto Rico. In 2010 he joins International Hospitality Enterprises as General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Beach Resort where he has worked overseeing extensive renovations and upgrades to the property, while achieving various Marriott CALA awards. Today, he is the General Manager of La Concha Resort, as position he joined in 2018.
DoubleTree by Hilton
Yodil Cabán started his career in the hospitality industry as a Corporate Manager trainee at the Hyatt Cerromar Beach Resort in Dorado on which his disposition and excellent performance earned him positions in the opening teams for the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar Dorado and Hyatt Regency St. Lucia hotels. After those experiences, Yodil became the Recreation Director at the Cerromar and Dorado Beach Resort, where he ensured complete guest and team satisfaction.
His next venture brings him to IHE as Assistant General Manager for the Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort where he earned the Operations Manager of the Year award in 2006 among 712 Marriott hotels around the world. His biggest challenge and most satisfying accomplishment came in 2007 when he led the renovation, reposition and conversion of the Pierre Hotel to DoubleTree by Hilton. Today, as General Manager, he oversees operations as well as customer and employee satisfaction among his many other responsibilities.
Condado Palm Inn & Suites
Henry Neumann was named General Manager of the Best Western Plus Condado Palm Inn & Suites on November 2014. His career began in 2003 at the Condado Plaza Hotel as a Concierge and Front Desk Agent. During his time at the Condado Plaza, he completed the Manager in Development Program ultimately becoming the Guest Relations Manager of the property.
In 2008 he ventured into the public sector, accepting a job as the Principal Aide to the Director of Tourism of Puerto Rico. Four years later, Henry returned to the private sector joining the IHE family as the Assistant General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort.
El Convento Hotel
With over 25 years of experience, Alfredo began his career at the banquet department of the El San Juan Hotel & Casino.
As a Food & Beverage Director Alfredo has held positions at various hotels including El Conquistador Resort & Country Club and the opening of Paradisus Puerto Rico, Sol Melia’s All Inclusive Resort. He joined IHE as part of the Courtyard by Marriott in Isla Verde in 2005 and became the Hotel Manager at the La Concha, a Renaissance resort in 2008. At the moment he holds the position of General Manager at the Hotel El Convento.
Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort
Efraín began his career with International Hospitality Enterprises as Hotel Manager for the Courtyard Isla Verde in 2002, as part of the hotel’s opening team. In 2004 he was promoted to General Manager of Hotel El Convento, where he served for 10 years, earning the #1 position for the hotel in San Juan on Tripadvisor.com. Most recently, Efraín has been part of the Condado Vanderbilt team, serving as Hotel Manager since opening. In 2018, Efraín returns to the hotel where he began his career with IHE, the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort, as its new General Manager.
With a vast experience in the hospitality industry since the age of 15, Ben arrived in Puerto Rico in 2000 to continue his career at the Wyndham El Conquistador as Director of Rooms. Later in 2003, he was promoted from El Conquistador to be the Opening Manager of the new Wyndham Martineau Bay Resort and Spa in Vieques, being the youngest General Manager in the Region/Resort Division.
Condado Vanderbilt. With Condado Vanderbilt under his management, the hotel scores the highest Forbes rating in its history and is positioned as the #1 TripAdvisor hotel in San Juan. Like all of the other IHE hotels, Mr. Tutt was able to manage and maintain the Condado Vanderbilt open throughout Hurricane Maria. Ben is also part of the IHE Board of Directors, AHLA Resort Committee and Cornell Society of Hotelmen.
